Buy Old School SNES Beat ‘Em Up Games at eBay

The 2D beat ‘em up video game has become almost non-existent. Sure, there are Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and Shank for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles, but that’s about it. Of course you don’t have this problem if you own a SNES, which had quite the selection of side scrolling beat ‘em up games.

Capcom’s trio of Final Fight games were perhaps the most well-known and well-loved brawlers on the SNES. The original Final Fight set the standard with its wide variety of weapons and waves of endless goons. Of course, Final Fight was strictly a one-player affair. The sequels Final Fight 2 and Final Fight 3 featured the same smash-mouth gameplay, but introduced co-operative play, new characters, and new moves.

At first glance, Jaleco’s Rival Turf and Brawl Brothers seem like Final Fight rip-offs, but each game has its own charm and appeal. Brawl Brothers is especially fun. It features five selectable characters, a diverse set of weapons, bizarre enemies, and a few maze-like levels.

Konami’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time was another SNES classic. It was a near-perfect arcade port with bright, colorful graphics, catchy music, and memorable boss battles. If you’re a fan of the classic TMNT cartoons, then you’ll love this game.

If you prefer human heroes (and androids), then you may like Captain America and The Avengers. It’s a two-player port of the Data East coin-op game that lets you play as the titular Captain America, Hawkeye, Iron Man, or The Vision. The gameplay is your standard enjoyable beat ‘em up fare with some shooting levels thrown in to break up the action.

Konami’s Batman Returns is a surprisingly good movie-based title. It’s a challenging one-player game that features large, detailed characters, cool gadgets, and a wonderful soundtrack that’s based on the film’s score. Batman has plenty of moves and animates nicely while the enemies are a diverse mix of fat men, hobos, and killer clowns. And there’s nothing quite as fun as beating down killer clowns.

Super Double Dragon is an original title that’s available only on the SNES. It pits Billy and Jimmy Lee in a battle against the nefarious Duke and his minions. Super Double Dragon has been slammed by some gamers for its bland graphics, generic-looking levels, and slow pace. However, it’s a rather fun game that ads new features like a guard button and a “Dragon Power” meter to the tried-and-true Double Dragon gameplay.

As you can see, the SNES is home to a number of cool beat ‘em up games. If you love these old-school, button-mashing brawlers, then you’ll be glad to know that you can find them for sale on eBay. In fact, we’ve placed a few links below to help you make your gaming purchases right away.
