Enjoy Classic Arcade-Style Baseball with World Class Baseball for the TurboGrafx-16

Unlike today’s online, option-packed, and photo-realistic baseball video games, World Class Baseball for the TurboGrafx-16 was basic, simple, and fun. Sure, it looks and sounds primitive by today’s standards, but the large sprites, catchy music, and shouting umpire still manage to capture the charm of the game. The game features a single-player exhibition mode; a two-player mode; and a demo mode; but the single-player Pennant Mode is where the real fun is to be had. It’s essentially a knockout tournament that requires winning to advance. Once you beat the other teams in the tournament, you’ll have the chance to take on the Turbo Tigers, a powerful All-Star team that sports golden uniforms.

If you enjoyed arcade sports games like Double Dribble and Track & Field, you may just want to try this overlooked TurboGrafx-16 hardball game. It’s easy to find and fairly cheap. In fact, you can purchase a used copy of the game from eBay for only $4.49. That’s a nice price for this fun, little baseball game. The Pennant Mode alone will keep you busy for a few days and there’s nothing quite like running up the score on your friend and rubbing it in his face afterwards.
