Ridge Racer V for the Sony PlayStation 2 Delivers Fast and Furious Arcade Racing and a Killer Electronic Soundtrack

If you have an old Sony PlayStation 2 or a backwards-compatible PlayStation 3, you should definitely pick up a copy of Namco’s Ridge Racer V. It’s a solid arcade-style racer that provides a nice blend of challenge and speed. You can bump into cars, pull off some awesome drifts, and compete in a number of events, including duels, grand prix races, and time attacks. The lengthy career mode offers a number of rewards during the course of play, including engine upgrades, new vehicles, and trophies. Ridge Racer V may be an older title, but it holds up quite well in the graphics department. There’s little pop-up to be seen as you speed down cityscapes and tree-lined roads. All of the cars sport a shiny polished look and the game’s many graphical effects like the sparking brakes and Pac-Man timer bug add to the overall presentation value. While the announcer is annoying and repetitive (“That was wicked!”), the game’s soundtrack is perhaps its biggest asset. Pulsing techno tunes like Euphoria, Paris, and Samurai Rocket are so good that you’ll find yourself racing just to listen to them.

Ridge Racer V may be a bit long in the tooth, but it still looks good, sounds great, and plays quite well. Try it for yourself. Buy a used or new copy of Ridge Racer V from eBay today.
